"Grey skies are going to clear up, put on a happy face!"
This year I wanted to return to the nostalgic days of musical theatre. I sought out a script that was family friendly, upbeat and responsible for some great classic songs. Enter "Bye Bye Birdie."
When the draft selects rock star Conrad Birdie, his fans are devastated, but none more than struggling songwriter Albert Peterson, whose song Birdie was just about to record. Albert's longtime girlfriend, Rosie pushes Albert to write a new tune that Birdie will perform on television to a fan selected in a contest. The scheme works, with young Ohio teenager Kim McAfee declared the winner, but no one has counted on the jealousy of her boyfriend, Hugo.
This show has been made possible by a wonderful ensemble cast. Whether our students are part of the Conrad Birdie fan club, an irritable Father, a Mama's boy or a shriner, there has been no shortage of fun while preparing this production for you. In addition to our hard working students, we have been fortunate to have Albert Dance + Drama Academy on board to support four of our musical numbers, under the guidance of Miss Shelby Snow.
Special thanks to my wonderfully supportive family. Many thanks to my awesome students and Thank you to YOU for supporting our school, our program. Please Enjoy Bye Bye Birdie!
Jessica Kelly
As always it has been an absolute pleasure working with students on the vocal and technical side of our musical production. Musicals are complex in rhythm, harmonies, and key changes, and require so many students to step out of their comfort zone and learn something new, from choreography to building sets to lighting design and all challenges have been well met by our students.
Thank you's must go to Jessica Kelly, our artistic director, who's time and expertise does not go unnoticed. Her skill as a director, teacher, and actor is visible in every scene.Thank you Alberta Dance and Drama Academy for supporting four of our numbers under the guidance of Shelby Snow.
Thanks to our administrators, colleauges, the AHSFA Society, our parent volunteers, my family (Andrea, Parker, and Maisie), and our students. We do these musicals both for the students and with the students and it brings me incredible joy knowing that our school is producing knowledgable and talented performers who regularly demonstrate high levels personal pride and responsiblity. Thank you for giving me yet another incredible experience and I look forward to number 5 next year.
Matthew Ellis
We are so proud of our students and staff who have worked so hard to bring the community another amazing performance. We saw in the "sneak peak" in November what we could look forward to, and we are in awe!
Thank you to Ms Kelly and Mr Ellis for all their hard work and dedication. Thank you to the AHSFA Parent Society for your unwavering support. A million rounds of applause for the Musical and Tech Theatre students. You WOW us with your gifts and talents every time you perform!
The Arts are a gift to our school and community. Arts programs nurture dedication that extends to all areas of a student's life. By supporting the Arts programs, you are encouraging students to take risks and discover potential! Theatre productions are vital to the essence of who we are at AHSFA.
On behalf of the administration team and the AHSFA/FCHS staff, Thank you for supporting our students!

Shelby has been dancing since the age of 5, beginning in tap, branching out later into jazz and ballet, and even later (at 17!) in acro. Since then, She has danced with many performance groups, and choreographed for dance teams and musicals throughout Calgary.
Shelby is going into her fourth year of her teaching career. Her favourite part of teaching is supporting dancers through their growth, both technically and mentally. She currently holds certification from Acrobatic Arts, obtaining her Module 1 certification in August 2019 and her AcroDance Preschool certification in September 2022. Shelby continues to grow as a dancer, taking drop in classes around Calgary and auditioning for the collective dance group En Corps.
Outside of the dance world, Shelby is completing her Bachelor of Arts in History and Psychology at the University of Calgary.
Shelby is heading into her second year as a dance teacher at the Alberta Dance Academy in Okotoks.
